...who was cartoonist for
The
Baptist Standard, weekly newsmagazine of Texas Baptists, for more than 30 years,
created "Brother Blotz" for Baptist Program
magazine in 1961 while serving as a minister of education in San Antonio, Texas. That same
year he began syndicated Brother Blotz and his friends to churches for their bulletins and
newsletters.
Since then Doug has been better known for his cartoons than for
his accomplishments as youth evangelist, pastor, minister of education or the
"forty-'leven other things" he has done in
pursuit of his calling as a minister and creativity consultant to religious
organizations.
No wonder, for he has touched more people that way. He has given
away more than 64,500 personalized cartoons at
conventions and personal appearances.
Since he "semi-retired" from the Southern Baptist Radio
and Television Commission in 1995 Doug has spent much of his time on the banquet circuit
sharing his extensive collection of "PulpiTEARS
Live" true, embarrassing incidents that happened in church.
He also serves as a communications consultant to religious
organizations and businesses that serve churches.
