JoAn and Doug share their story for Summit

I entertained about 250 senior adults today at a banquet as part of the regional Senior Summit held at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. It was a double helping of deja vu. My last appearance at this event was in 1998, and I remember rushing across the room to give my former classmate and childhood sweetheart a big (discreet) hug. Little did we know that we would be back as husband and wife shortly after our 20th (monthly) anniversary. We couldn’t resist opening with the story of that spurned proposal when we were 5-year-old neighbors and how the second proposal was accepted so quickly 72 years later.
The audience was lively, even supercharged at times, and they energized me. Some said they almost fell out of their chairs. Several added their stories to our repertoire. I gave away “Brother Blotz Fan Club President” buttons to those who told me a PulpiTEAR I had never heard.
